Is there really an "easy" role in Dota 2?

Players from Team Yandex were asked exactly that question in a recent video on the organization's YouTube channel. While there was no clear consensus, most of the roster agreed that the carry position is much simpler than many players make it out to be.

Chira JUNIOR: "You just farm creeps"

Mid laner Ilya "Chira JUNIOR" Chirtsov didn't hesitate with his answer.

"Carry. You just hit creeps. You don't really have to do anything else."

Watson agrees with his mid laner

Carry player Alimzhan "Watson" Islambekov also picked his own role as the easiest in the game, joking that a carry mainly farms until it's time to fight.

"Carry. You just farm creeps. It doesn't take that much thinking. Your team carries you until you're ready, then you either carry the game or feed."

Watson's opinion echoes comments made by several other professional players over the past year. Former TI champion TORONTOTOKYO previously described carry as the easiest role in modern Dota, arguing that today's meta gives position one players more farming space and fewer early-game responsibilities.

Malady believes Position 5 is the easiest

Hard support Arman "Malady" Orazbayev disagreed completely.

According to him, the outcome of the game doesn't depend as much on a position five player.

"Position 5. You can die 20 times and still win. You can also go 10-0 and still lose."

Saksa picked Position 4

Support veteran Martin "Saksa" Sazdov believes roaming support is the least demanding role.

"Position 4. You don't really have to do much. You play your lane and then you have complete freedom around the map."

DM named two different roles

Offlaner Dmitry "DM" Dorokhin couldn't settle on just one answer.

He believes both Position 3 and Position 5 are among the easiest roles in the current meta.

According to DM, hard supports have become significantly stronger over the past few years thanks to powerful laning heroes and impactful abilities. At the same time, he says offlane has become much more forgiving if a player understands the fundamentals.

"Position 5 feels great because the role has become much stronger over the years. Position 3 is also enjoyable. If you understand the basics, avoid unnecessary deaths, and know how to push lanes, it's a very comfortable role to play."

The debate over Dota 2's easiest role has become increasingly common among professional players. Earlier this year, Team Falcons mid laner Stanislav "Malr1ne" Potorak also argued that carry is currently the strongest role in matchmaking thanks to its impact in the current meta.
